Week 1
In week 1 of Business Consultancy I got to meet my teachers. Hilary and Bob, they introduced themselves to us and we done the same.
The lecture was a very brief introduction to what business consultancy is about and what our module will consist of.
Firstly in the lecture we spoke about the assignment, which will consist of a group task where we have to consult a real life business! When I found this out I was both excited and nervous. Its a new challenge never the less and it should be fun either way. Then we also have a written report which consists of 2500 words about the group task.
Then in the lecture we learnt about things such as Process Consultancy, Edopie model, Dcotor/patient model, Expert model, ways to find out information from the business.
Process Consultancy I learnt is where you learn about the business whilst building a relationship with the client. This you could say is a more personal way of consulting with a business and helps trust to be built between the parties.
E.D.O.P.I.E stands for:
Entry and agree contract
Diagnosis
Options
proposal and plan
Intervention and implementation
Evaluation
This is a good method into learning about a business.
Doctor and patient method, this is basic terms is where a client doesn't express the full realism of his situation and hides things which would of been very useful into helping his business. This is something I think everything is guilty of.
Expert model is basically the same as above but where the business needs expert help to help their situation but due to lack of information the problem isn't diagnosed, much like the doctor patient model.
We learnt certain ways into how to dissect the problems and current situation of a business in order to be able to start seeing where its needs are. These are things such as PESTEL, SWOT analysis and doing real life situations. I've used SWOT and PESTEL before so this I may find a easier way for me to find out information.
Also another interesting thing I learnt was about a guy called Edgar Shein, who is the 'King of Consultancy' some say.
We learnt a 3 level questioning technique. Which to be honest we've probably all done when being nosey about someone's personal life.
The seminar was more laid back and we got to know our classmates in more detail, one interesting thing I learnt was half of us have been to Ibiza!
That was the first week.
